New 5 in 19.5 lb/ft S-135 pipe body: 712 kip tensile yield, 74.1 kft·lb torsional yield, 0.9 design factor on tension. 800 ft of 91.8 lb/ft collars, buoyed in mud. Tool joint limit is an example value. Not for design.

Every limit on the string, checked together.

A drill string fails where loads combine: tension reduces the torque the pipe can carry, connections have their own limits, and doglegs add fatigue. The drill string module checks them together and reports the margin left on each.

  • Tension, torsion and combined loadsWith the margin of overpull.
  • Rotary-shouldered connectionsBending strength ratio and make-up torque.
  • Dogleg severity limitsFor fatigue.
  • Critical rotary speedsSpeeds to avoid for the string in the hole.
